Arms Fairs
N.B. NO ‘EARLY BIRDS’ AT OUR 2019 FAIRS. No admittance before 9.00am. The fairs will now run from 9.00am until 2.00pm
Our three fairs a year are going from strength to strength. A substantial amount from the fairs will be given to our chosen charities. Thanks must be given to David Owen and his long-suffering wife, Carole for their organisation.
New Members
The society is always looking for new members especially young people with an interest in military history, badge, medal or weapon collecting. Why not come along to one of our Monday evening meetings? You will be made most welcome.
Twelve months in the life of a president
Or more correctly, thoughts approaching the end of a two year period as President of a healthy, friendly and expanding militaria collector’s society. One of only a handful of similar clubs in the country.
In the last two years I have seen a successful period of growth both in membership and in other activities. This success has been driven by our three popular Antique Arms and Militaria Collectors Fairs held each year at the Britannia Hotel, Stockport. As a militaria collectors society we have taken the view that, if possible, we should support service people who have given much for our country’s peace. For many years profits from our fairs have enabled us to support our long term charity, Broughton House in Salford, home to disabled servicemen. Two further charities have benefitted this year, the Royal British Legion and Cancer Research UK. The latter being a charity to which our fair organisers, David and carole have strong connections.
Of course it is not all about collecting, for we have a large number of members, male and female who are interested in military history and to this end we attract each year six or seven good quality guest speakers spread over our twelve monthly general meetings, once again held at the Britannia Hotel. Please take a look at our events page for speakers in 2019. We also have an association with the Cheshire Branch of The Western Front Association and Manchester Military History Society, whose members have similar interests to ours.
Our ‘End of Term’ December meeting is always a highlight with our Chairman/Auctioneer providing a military history quiz followed by a hot pot or meat and potato pie supper. Another annual highlight is our Annual Dinner in October held at the Alma Lodge Hotel, Stockport – the friendliest of events.
Nothing in this world happens without effort. Thankfully we have always had hard working officers and committee members which will enable us to celebrate our fifty third birthday in April 2019, so we must be doing something correctly!
